Energy Services Firms Reposition for Deepwater Growth

Energy services firms in Guyana and Suriname are actively repositioning to capitalise on a growing pipeline of offshore deepwater activity that is reshaping the regional energy economy.

Rising production and exploration activity has sparked demand for a broad spectrum of services — from marine logistics and offshore supply bases to engineering, fabrication, and maintenance support. Regional players are partnering with international firms, investing in technology, and upskilling local workforces to meet stringent compliance and safety standards.

Guyana’s shore bases, particularly in Georgetown and neighbouring coastal towns, are becoming focal points for logistics and supply-chain management, supporting both upstream operations and broader maritime activity. In Suriname, preparatory work is under way to expand port and service facilities capable of supporting future offshore phases.

Local content policies in both jurisdictions aim to ensure that job creation and economic benefits accrue more directly to domestic stakeholders. However, effective implementation — including vocational training and certification — remains a strategic priority for governments and industry alike.

Analysts note that companies investing early in integrated service offerings, digital asset management, and environmental compliance are best positioned to win long-term contracts as deepwater activity matures.
